Relay Teams
Male, Female or Coed relay teams are welcome at the Ames Triathlon.
Technical Tee Shirt
A tee shirt will be given to each entrant. Men and women sizes available.
Time-Trial Swim Start Format
Athletes will start in a Time-Trial format. For the Time-Trial start, athletes will line up according to their respective age-group wave (USA Triathlon age is based on your age as of Dec 31st). One person will start every 3 – 7 seconds by crossing over the chip timing mat on the boat ramp before entering the water.
USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event:
The Ames Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. More details can be found at www.usatriathlon.org.
Ames Triathlon’s race director is a USAT Level ll Certified Race Director. Who has directed many Triathlon’s over the past 30 years.
Heart of America Triathlon Series:
Ames Triathlon is part of the Heart of America Triathlon Series. The Heart of America Triathlon Series is comprised of the best triathlons in the Midwest- all well run events on quality courses – offering a wide range of challenges. Each race in the series is put on by different race organizations. Creating a similar but unique racing experience. All events in the Heart of America Triathlon Series are USA Triathlon sanctioned and all are chip timed for accurate and timely results.
Points are awarded for participating in each race. Series winners receive free entries into each of next year’s races.
Chip Timing
The Ames Triathlon will be chip timed using advanced hardware and software. There will be instant display of results on a flat screen monitor during the triathlon. Results will be posted online as well.
